1.     Why do you think Jesus’s teaching would have been so compelling? Read Matthew 12:1-8, What made Jesus’s teaching different from the Pharisee’s teaching? Pay attention to V.7.

 

2.     What are the two things that the Sermon on the Mount reveals? Why is this important to understand? (The heart of Christ, the marks of a Christian)

 

3.     Read Matthew 5:3-6. Use the reference verses in your outline to help you answer the following questions.

 

·      What did Jesus mean when He said, “Blessed are the poor in Spirit”?

·      What did Jesus mean when He said, “Blessed are those who mourn”?

·      What did Jesus mean when He said, “Blessed are the meek”?

4.     How did your understanding of these first four beatitudes deepen your understanding of your faith? How will this cause you to live differently?
