New Hope Church Youth Pastor Search 2009

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Youth Pastor
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Develop a culture within New Hope that views all youth ministries as one united ministry within the overall ministry of New Hope.

Coordinate all Middle and Senior High ministries

  • Plan and oversee regular outreach and social activities for the youth
  • Develop a discipleship ministry to help youth grow in their relationship with Jesus
  • Recruit, train, and oversee adult volunteers to help carry out youth ministry objectives
  • Research and recommend camps, mission trips, and other special ministry/growth opportunities that would be appropriate for youth

Develop relationships with the youth and their parents

  • Attend youth events being careful to attend events at as many schools as we have youth represented
  • Be available to meet with youth individually or on a small group basis (Note: the youth pastor is not allowed to meet one-on-one with students of the opposite gender)
  • Schedule regular times when parents are invited to youth events or to parent meetings for the purpose of understanding the youth ministry and getting to know the youth ministry leadership
  • Initiate relationships with new families, making sure that youth group aged youth are welcomed to be part of the youth ministry and parents are informed about youth group opportunities

Actively participate in the life of the church and its members

  • Attend worship services weekly, assisting in leading as requested by the senior pastor
  • Build and maintain relationship with adults from the church who are not involved in the youth ministry

Manage office relationships and administrative responsibilities

  • Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested by the senior pastor
  • Manage the youth ministry budget within approved parameters
  • So far as it depends on you, maintain healthy working relationships with all other church staff and volunteers
  • Submit a time sheet in a format approved by the senior pastor to the elders board each month

KEY RELATIONSHIPS, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Maintain a vital and growing relationship with God through regular devotions, Bible reading and study, and prayer.
  • Ability to relate to and motivate Middle and Senior high aged youth and maintain your status as an adult
  • Ability to recruit and manage volunteers to accomplish ministry goals
  • Ability to communicate and relate with parents of youth and other adults in the congregation
  • Flexibility to meet multiple ministry demands and to serve outside of youth ministry as needed in the church
  • Ability to manage administrative tasks associated with youth ministry

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • College degree or demonstrated experience in church youth ministry
  • Demonstrated life of moral and ethical purity, together with the qualities of an elder as described in I Timothy and Titus.
